Blankets for Bara!
Family Doctor practice and patients support children in need.
So how did it start? Dr Moray Shirley explains the projects humble beginings. “Around 8 years ago I started donating wool to the practice for patients to knit while they were waiting for me. Many ladies took the knitting home and returned with squares.
Covid stopped the knitting in the rooms, but there are many ladies that collect wool each month and return with either squares or crochet blankets.
Together with a few dedicated ladies I sew up the squares. A team then edge them with crochet afterwards.
Some patients and friends of the practice also bring completed blankets to us for distribution.
This latest batch of blankets went to Bara Hospital Ward G3. Nicolene Stuart put out a request on ILF (I Love Fourways facebook group) last month and I contacted her to see how we could help.
These blankets are now with kids that have arrived at the hospital with nothing and will go home to nothing but a warm blanket!

How you can help!
Squares must be 30 stitches, 60 rows to make a square. Preferably with size 5 needles so that it makes it easy for sewing up. They can be dropped off at the practice or couriered to us.
